Shepherd's Pie?

Last night's menu consisted of:

Turkey Mushroom Shepherd's Pie
Pineapple & Strawberries

I have been told that my meal was actually NOT Shepherd's Pie, but instead Cottage Pie because Shepherd's Pie contains lamb and Cottage Pie contains beef or turkey.

This meal was a little bit more complicated to make, because it consisted of several steps, but it was still pretty easy.

I began by making the mashed potatoes that were to go on top of the Cottage Pie.
I used red potatoes.
After they were washed I cut them into small pieces and then cooked them.  When they were finished cooking, I put them into my KitchenAid Mixer (I LOVE THAT THING) to mash them.
I added milk, butter and salt and pepper and mixed them until they were smooth.  I then set them aside so I could work on the rest of the steps.

This is when they were finished:

Next I set to work on the vegetables.  This meal contained a lot of veggies!!  I began by dicing all of the carrots, onions, and mushrooms.
I then cooked them with a little bit of olive oil until the carrots were tender.

I then added the ground turkey and cooked it until the turkey was no longer pink.  I then added some flour and chicken broth, and continued cooking until the mixture thickened.

Don't mind my mess!!

I then poured the mixture into a 9x13 glass baking dish.

I then lightly steamed some green beans and put them on the top of the turkey and veggie mixture.
I then took the already prepared mashed potatoes and put them on top of the green beans, and then baked it at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes until the potatoes were slightly browned and the entire dish was warmed through.

Here is my completed plate:

Okay, so overall I would say that the tally is:

Turkey Mushroom Shepherd's Pie- A HIT!!
Strawberries & Pineapple- A definite HIT!!!

My husband and I both really enjoyed this meal, but we thought that it was a tad on the bland side.  My husband added Frank's Red Hot Sauce and salt to his, and I just added some salt to mine.  The next time I make this I will definitely bump up the seasonings.
